O objetivo foi avaliar o efeito das palhadas de milheto (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm.) Stapf) e milheto + feijão-de-porco (Canavalia ensiformes (L.) DC.) e diferentes doses de nitrogênio, na nutrição mineral do feijoeiro. O delineamento foi em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, em Latossolo Vermelho, em plantio direto. As parcelas foram constituídas pelas palhadas e as subparcelas por um fatorial 2 x 4 + 1, representado por duas doses de N na semeadura (30 e 60 kg ha-1) e quatro em cobertura (0, 40, 80 e 120 kg ha-1), mais um tratamento adicional, correspondente a 30 kg ha-1 de N na semeadura, sem cobertura, com inoculação das sementes com Rhizobium tropici e aplicação foliar de Co e Mo. A palhada de milheto + feijão-de-porco proporcionou maiores teores foliares de N e Mg. A cobertura nitrogenada aumentou o teor do nutriente até a dose de 116 kg ha-1, proporcionando incrementos lineares nos teores de K e S. Para os teores de Mg houve interação tripla. O tratamento adicional aumentou o teor de N sob palhada de milheto, os teores de K e Cu e o rendimento de grãos sob ambas palhadas e reduziu os teores de Ca e Mg, sob palhadas de milheto e milheto + feijão-de-porco, respectivamente. As doses de N em cobertura aumentaram o rendimento de grãos em ambas as doses de base, com maior resposta na de 30 kg ha-1 de N.

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of straws of millet (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm.) Stapf) and millet plus jack bean (Canavalia ensiformes (L.) DC.) intercropping and nitrogen fertilization levels on bean mineral nutrition in a no-till system. The experiment was carried out in a randomized blocks design and four replications in a split-plot arrangement, with the straws in the plots and nitrogen levels at sowing (30 and 60 kg ha-1) and at topdressing (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg ha-1) as a 2 x 4 + 1 factorial in sub-plots, plus an additional treatment with 30 kg ha-1 at sowing, without topdressing, and seed inoculation with Rhizobium tropici with Co and Mo foliar application. The millet plus jack bean straw provide the highest N and Mg contents. N topdressing levels increased N foliar concentration up to 116 kg ha-1, providing a linear effect in K and S contents and differenced effects on Mg concentration, depending on the N level at sowing and straw combinations. The additional treatment increased the N concentration only in millet straw, K and Cu in two straws, and reduced the Ca and Mg contents, under millet and millet plus jack bean straws, respectively. The topdressing levels increased the grain yield, with the bigger response in 30 kg ha-1 at of N sowing.

A ciclagem de nutrientes está relacionada com a capacidade de absorção das diferentes espécies de plantas de cobertura. Já as velocidades de decomposição e liberação de nutrientes, das palhadas produzidas pelas mesmas, têm com fator principal a relação C/N, com diferença marcante entre gramíneas e leguminosas. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção de matéria seca, teor, acúmulo, decomposição e liberação de macronutrientes da palhada de milheto (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm.) Stapf) solteiro e consorciado com feijão-de-porco (Canavalia ensiformes (L.) DC.), em ambiente de campo, sob a cultura do feijoeiro, semeada em agosto de 2005 (inverno/primavera), em um Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico típico. A liberação de nutrientes foi determinada por meio da distribuição de bolsas confeccionadas com telas de náilon, com malha de 1 mm, de dimensões de 0,2 x 0,2 m, preenchidas com quantidades de palha proporcionais à área da bolsa. O delineamento utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas. As parcelas foram constituídas pelos dois tipos de palhadas (milheto e milheto + feijão-de-porco), e as subparcelas, pelas épocas de avaliação ao longo do cultivo do feijoeiro (0, 8, 16, 24, 40, 56 e 72 dias após o manejo das plantas de cobertura). Os resíduos coletados foram secos em estufa de circulação forçada de ar, a 65 ºC, até atingirem peso constante, para determinação da matéria seca remanescente, sendo posteriormente moídos e encaminhados para a determinação dos teores de macronutrientes. Com base nos teores e na matéria seca remanescente, foram calculadas as quantidades remanescentes dos macronutrientes, sendo elas expressas em percentagem do valor inicial. Os valores foram ajustados a modelos não lineares, escolhendo-se aqueles com melhor ajuste em cada situação. A palhada de milheto + feijão-deporco apresentou maior quantidade de matéria seca e maiores teores de N e Ca, ciclando maior quantidade de todos os macronutrientes. A palhada de milheto + feijão-de-porco apresentou maiores velocidades de decomposição e liberação de N, Ca e Mg.

Nutrients recycle is related to the absorption capacity by different cover crop species. Already speeds of decomposition and of nutrient release of straws produced is mostly related with C/N ratio, with a marked difference between grasses and leguminous. In this sense, the objective of this study was to evaluate the biomass production and macronutrient contents and accumulation, decomposition, and nutrient release from straw of millet (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm.) Stapf) and millet - jack - bean (Canavalia ensiformes (L.) DC.) intercropping, under field conditions, under common bean, sown in August (winter/spring). Decomposition and nutrient release was determined in nylon bags (0.2 x 0.2 m, 1 mm mesh) filled with straw quantities according to the area of the bag. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications in split plot arrangement. The straws represented the plots and the subplots evaluation periods (0, 8, 16, 24, 40, 56, and 72 days). The residues were dried to constant weight in a forced-air oven at 65 ºC to determine the remaining dry matter, then ground and sent to a laboratory to analyze macronutrient contents. Based on the contents and remaining dry matter amounts, the remaining nutrient amounts were determined, expressed in relation to the initial amount. Non-linear models were fit to the values, choosing the best adjustment in each case. Biomass quantity, N and Ca contents and cycling of nutrient quantities was greatest in the intercropping straw. The decomposition and nutrient release speeds were also highest in millet - jack - bean intercropping straw.

Stapf) solteiro e consorciado com crotalária (Crotalaria juncea), sob a cultura do feijoeiro. O delineamento foi o de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas. As parcelas foram constituídas pelas duas palhadas; as subparcelas, pelas épocas de avaliação, ao longo do cultivo do feijoeiro (0, 8, 16, 24, 40, 56 e 72 dias após a semeadura). Os resíduos coletados foram secos em estufa de circulação forçada de ar, a 65ºC, até atingirem massa constante, para a determinação da matéria seca remanescente. Posteriormente, foram moídos e encaminhados para laboratório, para a determinação dos teores de macronutrientes. Com base nos teores e na matéria seca remanescente, foram calculadas as quantidades remanescentes dos macronutrientes, expressas em porcentagem do valor inicial. Os valores foram ajustados a modelos não-lineares, escolhendo-se os modelos com melhor ajuste em cada situação. O consórcio entre milheto e crotalária produziu maior quantidade de fitomassa seca, acumulando e liberando maior quantidade de todos os macronutrientes, à exceção do enxofre. A palhada de milheto apresentou maior velocidade de liberação de nitrogênio.

The objective was to evaluate biomass production, accumulation and release of macronutrients, and the decomposition of straws of pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm.) Stapf) and pearl millet plus Crotalaria juncea intercropping, in field condition, under dry bean, sowed in February (summer/autumn). The experimental design was randomized blocks, with four replications, in a split-plot arrangement, with the straws in the plots and evaluation periods in sub-plots (0, 8, 16, 24, 40, 56 e 72 days after seeding). The collected residues were dried to determine the remaining dry matter, then ground and sent to laboratory in order to determinate macronutrient contents. By the contents and remaining dry matter amounts, the remaining nutrient amounts were determined, expressed as percentages of the initial amounts. Non-linear models were fit to the values, choosing the best adjustment. The pearl millet plus Crotalaria juncea intercropping provided the largest biomass production. The straw from intercropping accumulated and released the largest macronutrients quantities, except for sulfur. The single millet presented the fastest nitrogen release speed.

O consórcio entre gramíneas e leguminosas para produção de palha, no sistema plantio direto, visa conciliar a proteção do solo, por meio da maior durabilidade da gramínea, com a fixação de N e disponibilização mais rápida de nutrientes pela decomposição da leguminosa. Diante disso, instalou-se um experimento para determinar a produção de fitomassa e o teor e acúmulo de micronutrientes do milheto, feijão-de-porco e guandu-anão, em cultivo solteiro e nos consórcios da gramínea com as leguminosas, para a produção de palha no plantio direto. O trabalho foi conduzido no campo experimental do Departamento de Agricultura da Universidade Federal de Lavras - Lavras, Estado de Minas Gerais. O delineamento foi o de blocos casualizados, com sete tratamentos, para os teores das espécies em cultivo solteiro e consorciado e cinco tratamentos para produção de fitomassa e acúmulo de micronutrientes, com quatro repetições. Apenas o guandu-anão solteiro apresentou menor produção de fitomassa fresca e seca, com os demais tratamentos produzindo, em média, 12,361 e 2,854 t ha-1 de fitomassa fresca e seca, respectivamente. Houve diferenças significativas para os teores de B, Cu e Zn e para os acúmulos de todos os micronutrientes avaliados. As leguminosas apresentaram maiores teores de B e o milheto, maiores teores de Cu e Zn. De forma geral, o consórcio entre milheto e feijão-de-porco apresentou os maiores acúmulos de micronutrientes.

Intercropping leguminous with gramineous crops for straw production in no-tillage systems aims to conciliate soil protection (through greater durability of gramineous crops) with nitrogen fixation and faster micronutrient availability (through leguminous decomposition). Therefore, an experiment was conducted with the intention of evaluating phytomass production as well as micronutrient levels and accumulation in millet (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm.) Stapf), jack bean (Canavalia ensiformes (L.) DC.), and pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan, dwarf cultivar), as sole crops and intercropping gramineous with leguminous crops, for straw production in a no-tillage system. The experiment was carried out in the experimental field at the Agriculture Department of the Federal University of Lavras (Lavras, Minas Gerais state, Brazil). The experimental was conducted using a randomized block design, with seven treatments for species nutrient levels under different conditions (sole crops or intercropping) and five treatments for phytomass production and micronutrient accumulation, with four replications. For phytomass production, only the pigeon pea sole crop displayed lower yield of fresh and dry phytomass, while the others produced on average 12.361 and 2.854 t ha-1 of fresh and dry phytomass yield, respectively. There were significant differences in B, Cu and Zn levels, and in accumulation of all evaluated micronutrients. The leguminous species presented the greatest B levels, with the greatest Cu and Zn levels found in millet. In general, millet plus jack bean intercropping presented the greatest micronutrient accumulation.

O objetivo foi avaliar a interação entre palhadas e doses de nitrogênio, na nutrição e rendimento de grãos do feijoeiro, sob plantio direto. O delineamento foi de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas. As palhadas influenciaram o teor de Fe e as doses de N os teores de N, Ca, Mg e Mn. Houve interação entre palhadas e doses para os teores de P, K e S. O maior teor foliar de Fe ocorreu sob palhada de guandu-anão e de N na dose de 62 kg ha-1 do nutriente. Para os teores de Ca, Mg e Mn, houve respostas lineares, sendo negativa para o Ca e positivas para os dois últimos. Para o P, houve pequena redução, com posterior acréscimo nas palhadas de milheto e milheto+feijão-de-porco. Os teores de K aumentaram até próximo de 50 kg ha-1 de N, com posterior redução sob as palhadas de milheto consorciado com as leguminosas. Nas palhadas de milheto e guandu-anão, houve redução a partir de pequenas doses de N. Os teores de S aumentaram de forma quadrática nas palhadas com milheto. O maior rendimento foi obtido sob milheto+feijão-de-porco na maior dose de N.

The object was to evaluate the dry bean nutrient contents and grain yield in no-till. The study was carried out in a randomized block design, and four replications, with a split-plot arrangement. The dry bean macro and micronutrients contents and grain yield were determined. The straws significantly influenced Fe content, while nitrogen fertilization levels influenced N, Ca, Mg and Mn contents. There were significant interactions between straws and the rate of N for P, K and S contents. The greatest dry bean Fe foliar content was observed under dwarfguandu straw. N contents increased until the rate of 62 kg ha-1 N, and experienced reduction after that level. The N rates provided linear effects in Ca, Mg and Mn contents, being negative for Ca and positive for the others. P contents had little reduction with increases in millet and millet+jack-bean straws. K contents increased until rates near 50 kg ha-1, with reduction after that level under all the straws with millet presence. Under millet and dwarf-guandu straws, the reduction occurred starting at small N rates. S contents increased quadratically, only under straws where millet was present. The best grain yield was obtained under millet+jack bean in the largest N rate.

Na produção de hortaliças orgânicas a utilização exclusiva de composto orgânico tem se mostrado uma prática onerosa, em função do grande volume exigido para se obter produções comerciais. Uma das alternativas para a adubação complementar das hortaliças é a utilização da adubação verde. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar três espécies de adubos verdes, utilizadas em complementação ao composto orgânico, quanto ao aporte de nutrientes ao solo, a produtividade e às características agronômicas de alface americana e repolho. O experimento foi instalado na Universidade Federal de Lavras, em LavrasMG, no período de dezembro de 2001 a agosto de 2002. O solo foi classificado como LATOSSOLO VERMELHO Distrófico. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 4x2, com 3 repetições. Os fatores foram as leguminosas mucuna-preta (Stizolobium aterrimum), feijão-de-porco (Canavalia ensiformis.), e crotalária juncea (Crotalaria juncea.), mais uma testemunha (vegetação espontânea e adubação mineral); e as culturas de alface americana e repolho. A crotalária juncea apresentou o maior potencial de extração dos nutrientes N, P, K, Mg, B, Mn e Zn do solo. Esta espécie foi ainda mais eficiente que o feijão-de-porco e a mucuna-preta em aumentar o peso comercial de cabeça do repolho. Com relação à produção, para a alface os tratamentos de adubação verde mais composto orgânico não diferiram da testemunha; enquanto para repolho, tiveram um desempenho estatisticamente inferior. Entretanto, a utilização de adubo verde mais composto orgânico permitiu a obtenção de cabeças comerciais de alface americana e repolho com peso satisfatório para o mercado.

The exclusive use of organic compost in the production of organic vegetables has been found to be a costly practice due to the high volume of compost demanded to obtain commercial productions. Thus, one of the alternatives for complementary fertilization of vegetables is the use of green manure. The objective of this work was to evaluate three green manure species, used to complement the fertilization with organic compost, in relation to the nutrient contents in their biomass, and to productivity and agronomic traits of crisphead lettuce and cabbage. The experiment was carried out at the Olericulture Sector of the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), in Lavras, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, from December 2001 to August 2002, in a soil classified as Udox. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design in a factorial scheme (4x2) with three repetitions. The first factor was constituted by the green manure species: black-velvet bean (Stizolobium aterrimum), jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis), and sunnhep (Crotalaria juncea), plus a control treatment (weed and mineral fertilizers); and the second factor was constituted by the vegetable crops: crisphead lettuce and cabbage. Among the tested green manure species, sunnhep presented the best potential for extraction of N, P, K, Mg, B, Mn and Zn. In addition, sunnhep was more efficient than jack bean or black velvet bean in increasing the commercial weight of cabbage head. In relation to productivity, as for lettuce, green manuring plus organic compost did not differ from the control; while for the cabbage, these treatments had a performance statistically inferior. The use of green manure plus organic compost allowed to obtain commercial crisphead lettuce and cabbage heads with satisfactory weight for the market.

Objetivou-se determinar a produção de biomassa e o teor de macronutrientes do milheto (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm.) Stapf), feijão-de-porco (Canavalia ensiformes (L.) DC.) e guandu-anão (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) em cultivo solteiro e nos consórcios da gramínea com as leguminosas, visando a produção de palha no sistema plantio direto. O trabalho foi conduzido no campo experimental do Departamento de Agricultura da Universidade Federal de Lavras (Lavras, MG, Brasil). O delineamento foi o de blocos casualizados, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições. Apenas o guandu-anão solteiro apresentou menor produção de fitomassa fresca e seca, sendo que os demais tratamentos não diferiram entre si, pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. De forma geral, as leguminosas apresentaram maiores teores de N e Ca e o milheto maiores teores de S. Apenas o feijão-de-porco solteiro apresentou menor teor de P. Os maiores teores de K foram apresentados pelo milheto solteiro e consorciado com as leguminosas e pelo feijão-de-porco em consórcio com milheto. Os menores teores de Mg foram verificados para o guandu-anão.

The object of this work was to evaluate the biomass production and the macronutrients quantity of millet (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm.) Stapf), jack bean (Canavalia ensiformes (L.) DC.), guandu (Cajanus cajan, (L.) Millsp.) dwarf cultivar, and the millet with leguminous consortiums to straw production in no-tillage system. The experiment was carried in experimental area at Agriculture Department of the Federal University of Lavras (Lavras, Minas Gerais state, Brazil). The experimental design was randomized blocks, with five treatments and four replications. For biomass production, only the guandu presented smaller fresh and dry biomass yield than the other treatments. In general, the leguminous presented the greatest N and Ca quantities and millet the greatest quantities of S. Only jack bean presented minor P quantity. For K the greatest quantities were verified for single milett and its incropping with leguminous and jack bean in intercroppin with millet. The minor quantities of Mg were observed for guandu.

Extratos aquosos da parte aérea de mucuna-preta (Stilozobium aterrimum Piper & Tracy), mucuna rajada (Stilozobium sp.), Crotalaria juncea L., Crotalaria spectabilis Roth, guandu e guandu anão (Cajanus cajan (L.) Druce) foram preparados com o objetivo de se determinar a potencialidade alelopática dessas espécies, largamente utilizadas como plantas de cobertura, sobre sementes de alface (planta-teste) e aquênios de picão-preto (Bidens pilosa L.). Os experimentos foram conduzidos no Laboratório de Análise de Sementes da Universidade Federal de Lavras, durante o mês de abril de 2003. Foram avaliados o índice de velocidade de germinação (IVG) e a germinação final. No experimento com alface, houve redução significativa da germinação apenas para o extrato aquoso de crotalária juncea. Para as outras espécies, houve uma tendência de redução na germinação, porém, não diferindo da testemunha com água destilada. O IVG apresentou redução significativa nos tratamentos com extratos aquosos de crotalária juncea, guandu comum, mucuna-rajada e mucuna-preta. As outras espécies tiveram uma tendência em reduzir o IVG, porém, não diferindo da testemunha. No experimento com picão-preto, a germinação apresentou comportamento semelhante ao experimento com alface, com redução significativa apenas para o tratamento com crotalária juncea, porém, para o IVG, houve redução significativa apenas para a mucuna-preta, com uma tendência de redução para os tratamentos com as outras espécies, mas não diferindo da testemunha.

Aqueous extracts from aerial part of black mucuna (Stilozobium aterrimum Piper & Tracy), striped mucuna (Stilozobium sp), Crotalaria juncea L., Crotalaria spectabilis Roth., guandu (Cajanus cajan (L.) Druce) and dwarf guandu (Cajanus cajan) were prepared with the objective of studying the allelopathic potential of these species, broadly used as cover plants, on lettuce seeds (test plant) and aquenes of Bidens pilosa L.. The experiments were carried out at the Seed Analysis Laboratory of the Lavras Federal University in April, 2003. The germination speed index (GSI) and the final germination percentage were evaluated. There was significant reduction for the lettuce's final germination only for the aqueous extract of Crotalaria juncea. For the other species there was germination reduction trend, however there was not any estatistical difference for the treatment with distilled water. The lettuce's GSI was significantly reduced for the treatments with aqueous extracts of Crotalaria juncea, guandu, striped mucuna and black mucuna. Althoug the other species had a trend in reducing GSI, there was not statistical difference compared to the check. In the experiment with Bidens pilosa the final germination was similar to the experiment with lettuce, with significant reduction only for the treatment with Crotalaria juncea, however for GSI there was only significant reduction for the black mucuna, with reduction trend for the treatments with the other species, but there was not statistical difference compared to the check.

Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar os componentes de produção do Milho cultivado no sistema convencional e no plantio direto sob palhada de Aveia preta (Avena strigosa Sereb), em diferentes épocas de adubação nitrogenada em cobertura. A aveia preta produziu em média 6,37 t.ha-1 de matéria seca. Não houve diferença significativa entre as épocas de adubação de cobertura e sistema de plantio para as variáveis estande final, altura de planta, altura de espiga, espigas por planta, plantas quebradas e acamadas e produtividade. O florescimento feminino foi mais precoce no plantio convencional, pelo fato de a emergência das plantas ser mais rápida que no plantio direto. O tempo de florescimento feminino para plantio convencional e plantio direto foi, em média, de 74 e 76 dias, respectivamente

The objective of this work was to evaluate the maize production components in conventional and in no-till systems, under the straw of black oat (Avena strigosa Sereb), after different epochs of N fertilization in coverture. The black oat produced 6,37 t ha-1 of straw. It was not verified significant difference between the epochs of fertilization and plantation systems for the characteristics: stand, plant height, ear height, number of ears per plant, broken and fallen plants and productivity. The female flowering was faster in the conventional than in no-till system, because plant emergency is quicker than in no-till. The time of female flowering for conventional and for no-tillage system was 74 and 76 days, respectively
